Mr. Howard E. Wear Sr., 79, of Loraine, died at 5:25 p.m. Wednesday (February 26, 2003) in Blessing Hospital.

Born June 7, 1923 in rural Golden, Howard was the son of Jabez Sylvester and Daisy Myrtle Louderback Wear. He married Delores H. Briscoe on February 28, 1942 in Palmyra, Missouri. She died February 23, 1993.

Mr. Wear attended Adams County Schools and served his country in the U. S. Army during WW II. He was a member of the Loraine Methodist Church, Herman Lodge No. 39, Quincy Consistory, Quincy Shrine Club, Ansar Shrine Temple of Springfield, Fraternal Order of Eagles No.535 and a lifetime member of the Frontier Division of the Illinois Police Association. Howard helped form the Jefferson School Men's Club that worked on behalf of underprivileged children and donated many hours to the Neighborhood Federation. Howard enjoyed camping and fishing and especially loved spending time with his great grandchildren.

Mr. Wear was a former Alderman for the City of Quincy First Ward and a former member of the Adams County Board. He was employed as a custodian for many years at Jefferson School and later worked in the Power House at the Illinois Veterans Home until his retirement in 1986.

Surviving is a son, Howard E. Wear Jr. of Loraine; a daughter, Linda Coyle and her husband Charlie of Quincy; a granddaughter, Cindy Mock and her husband John of Quincy; three great grandchildren; Caleb Mock, Kiersten Mock and Callie Mock all of Quincy; a brother, Don Wear of Mendon; three sisters, Anna Belle Junk of Lambertsville, MI., Inez Tournear of Quincy and Shirley Cline and her husband Thomas of Burton, IL.; and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Wear was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a grandson, Kevin D. Wear; a great granddaughter, Caitlin Mock, two brothers, Jabez J. Wear and Cyrus Wear; and four sisters, Daisy Junk, Bessie Ward, Doris Russell and Adra Germann.

Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:00 in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Oliver Taube. Burial will be in Curless Cemetery near Loraine.

Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 and Saturday until the time of services at the funeral home. Herman Lodge No. 39 will conduct Masonic services Friday evening at 7:00 in the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Friends for Kidney's or the American Heart Association.
