| Mr. William W. " Wild Bill" Whitfield III, 64, of 2064 Elm, formerly of RR 2, Quincy, died at 4:57 p.m.
Sunday (July 8, 2001) in Blessing Hospital. Born July 22, 1936 in Quincy, Mr. Whitfield was the son of William W. and Mary Ellen Badgley Whitfield Jr.. He married Edith Wilma Wright on July 14, 1974 in Grafton, IL. She died April 30, 2000. Bill was a 1954 graduate of Quincy High School and was a member of the Postal Workers Union and the Quincy VFW Post 5129. He enjoyed camping, riding motocycles, watching football, and turquoise and coin collecting. He liked to build race cars and attend car races. Bill attended Vermont Street United Methodist Church. He served his country in the U. S. Navy during the Korean Conflict aboard the U. S. S. Oriskany and the U. S. S. Midway. He worked for the U. S. Post Office for 33 years, retiring in 1990. Surviving are two sons, Kenneth Whitfield and his wife Theresa and William Thomas Whitfield both of Quincy; three daughters, Jeanie Yohn and her husband Troy of Quincy, Carolyn Jenkins of Nashville, TN., and Roberta Parry and her husband Dan of Anchorage, AK.; 13 grandchildren, Angela Owens, Tamra Owens, Kayla Dinkheller, Kenneth Lee Whitfield Jr., and William Michael Whitfield all of Quincy, Kelly Sue Jenkins and Michelle Ann Province both of Nashville, TN., Brandon Rye, Stephanna Kay Bush and Steven James Bush all of Bainbridge, GA., and Shelly Parry, Trisha Parry and Jessica Parry all of Anchorage, AK.; three great grandchildren, Jordan Andrew Owens and Corbin Michael Christensen both of Quincy and Hayden Jenkins of Nashville, TN.; a brother, Robert M. Whitfield and his wife Dot of Miles City, MT.; and an Uncle, William "Bill" Badgley and his wife Bert of LaVerne, CA.; and several nieces and nephews. Mr. Whitfield was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and a daughter, Patricia Kathleen Bush; and a grandson in infancy, Richard William Jenkins. Graveside memorial services will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 in Sunset Cemetery by the Rev. Robert Swickard. Military rites will be conducted by Quincy American Legion Post #37. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the Leukemia Society of America. |
