| Mr. Robert L. Young, 67, of 1632 Locust, died at 8:45 p.m. Monday (August 6, 2001) in his home. Born October 9, 1933 in Charlotte, NC., Robert was the son of Leon and Ruby Combs Young. He married Nina Gottman on December 31, 1954 in Rockville, MD. She survives. Mr. Young served his country in the Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was a lifetime member of the Palmyra VFW and the American Legion in Mt. Airy, MD. He was also a past president of the Association of Interpretive Naturalist, and the Izaak Walton League Maryland Chapter. Mr. Young was employed as a game wardern for the Maryland State Game and Fish Commission for five years and was later the Associate Director of Parks for the Maryland National Capital Park and Planning Commission for twenty-three years until his retirement in 1986. Also surviving is a daughter, Nina L. Orebaugh and her husband Lester of Quincy; two sons, Robert L. Young Jr. and his wife Patricia of Thayer, IL., and Samuel A. Young of Monrovia MD; five grandchildren, Sarah Young of Chicago, IL., Robert L. Young III of Springfield, Katherine Young of Thayer, IL., Candace Gregory of Glen Ellyn, IL., and Sean Gregory of Gaithersburg, MD; and several nieces and nephews. Robert was preceded in death by his parents. Funeral Services will be held Friday morning at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by the Rev. Theron Hughes. Burial with military honors by Payson V. F. W. Post #2061 will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 and Friday morning until the time of services at the funeral home. Palmyra V. F. W. Post 11041 will conduct services Thursday evening at 7:30 in the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, and the American Diabetes Association. |
