ADA R. HIMES
Mrs. Ada R. Himes, 93, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 2085 Maine, Quincy, died at 3:55 a.m. Monday (June 10, 2013) in Good Samaritan Home.
Born June 26, 1919 in Quincy, Ada was the daughter of Jonathan Edwin and Ruth E. Smith Seckman. She married Robert R. Himes on September 5, 1942 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on December 11, 1975.
Ada was a 1937 graduate of Quincy High School and a graduate of Gem City Business College. She was a member of P.E.O. Chapter F and enjoyed collecting music boxes.
Mrs. Himes was employed as an Executive Secretary to Dan andBill Vorhees at Electric Wheel for 24 years. On September 9, 1972, she became the Executive Director of the American Red Cross, Adams County Chapter, a position she held until her retirement in 1991.
Survivors include a nephew, David Seckman (Rebecca) of Washington, D.C; a niece, Chris Seckman of Wentzville, MO; three great nephews, Jason Seckman (Elizabeth) of Omaha, NE, Daniel Seckman of St. Louis, MO and Christopher Seckman of Washington, D.C.; and a sister in law, Arlene Seckman Lilley (Forrest) of Quincy.
Mrs. Himes was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert; a brother, Jonathan E. Seckman; a sister, Alice Seckman; and a nephew, Jonathan Kent Seckman.
Graveside services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:00 in Greenmount Cemetery.
There is no visitation, but friends are invited to the graveside service.
The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the Adams County Chapter of the American Red Cross.
