Agnes J. (Westermeyer) Baker

May 17, 1928 ~ January 13, 2014 (age 85)

   Agnes J. Baker,  85, of rural Quincy, died at 7:25 a.m. Monday (January 13, 2014) in Good Samaritan Home.

   Born May 17, 1928 in Jacksonville, Illinois, she was the daughter of Henry and Marie Middendorf Westermeyer.  She married Lester F. Baker on November 5, 1949 in Quincy.  He survives.

    Agnes was a 1946 graduate of Bluffs High School and graduated from Gem City Business College.  She was a member of Bluff Hall Evangelical Free Church where she served as Chairperson of Womens' Fellowship, Sunday School Superintendent, Deaconess and taught Sunday School for several years.  She was also a member of the Adams County Home Extension and enjoyed gardening, quilting and bowling in her younger years.  She also enjoyed traveling to California and Georgia to visit family.

   Mrs. Baker was a secretary for GATES Radio for several years and then helped her husband, Lester, farm in Fall Creek Township.              

   Survivors include her husband, Lester; a son, Michael D. Baker of Quincy; two grandchildren, Jessica Baker of Atlanta, Georgia, and Lindsey Baker of Alpharetta, Georgia; two step-grandchildren from her son's former marriage, Jon Swett (Katrina) of South Windsor, Connecticut and Brian Swett (Danielle) of Henderson, Nevada.

   Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by her parents.

   Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 in the Bluff Hall Evangelical Free Church with Pastor Greg Gahan officiating.  Burial will be in Bluff Hall Cemetery.  

   Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy and Saturday morning from 9:30 until the time of service at the church.

   Memorials may be made to Bluff Hall Church or to the American Cancer Society.
