ALBERTA MORENE SMITH
Alberta Morene Smith, 95, of Quincy passed away at 3:34 a.m. Friday (July 20, 2018) in Good Samaritan Home.
Born January 26, 1923 in Pike County, Illinois, Morene was the daughter of Lester and Gussie Fielder Buchanan. She married Raymond E. "Jack" Smith on September 26, 1942 in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded in death on March 19, 2009.
She graduated from Pleasant Hill High School. Morene enjoyed gardening, fishing, doing needlework, cooking and baking.
Morene and her husband Jack owned and operated The Great River Meat Market at 12th and Washington from 1976 until Jack's retirement in 1993.
Survivors include three daughters, Sandra Mae Meade (Dan), Brenda Kay Waggoner (Dan) and Jackie Jean Shannon (Omer) all of Quincy; a son, Michael Smith of Springfield, IL; five grandchildren, Marty Meade (Julie) of Portland, OR, Brian Meade (Kim) of Marion, IL, Andy Waggoner (Christine) of Quincy, Nicole Williams (Rickey) of Quincy and Christopher Shaul of Quincy; and five great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Cameron and Madison Waggoner all of Quincy and Madison Grace Meade and Elizabeth Ann Meade both of Marion, IL.
Morene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jack; three sisters, Fern Daniels, Pauline Brown and Norma Franklin; and two granddaughters, Tami and Lisa Waggoner.
Cremation has been accorded to Morene. Graveside services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 in the Crescent Heights Cemetery in Pleasant Hill, Illinois with Rev. Michael Kuse officiating.
There is no visitation but friends are invited to attend the Graveside service.
Memorials may be made to Sparc.
