Barbara J Schelen

   Mrs. Barbara J. Schelen, 78, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 1501 College, Quincy, died at 6:35 a.m. Friday (November 9, 2012) in Good Samaritan Home.

   Born January 10, 1934 in Quincy, Barb was the daughter of John T. and Elva E. Bishop Dickson. She married Oscar William "Bill" Schelen on October 2, 1965 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on April 6, 2008.

   Barb was a member of Madison Park Christian Church. She enjoyed golfing and was a two time City Golf Champion, reading, listening to Jazz and will be remembered for singing with the Andy Van Sickle Band in Quincy.

   A 1951 graduate of Quincy High School, Barb was employed in the Customer Service Office at CIPS for 43 years until her retirement.

   Survivors include a step son, Burk K. Schelen of Crawfordsville, IA; a sister, Shirley Requet (William) of Jacksonville, FL; two nephews, Kevin Requet and Bradley Requet both of Jacksonville, FL; two great nephews, Clayton  and Kyle Requet both of Jacksonville, FL; two cousins, John and Elsa Korman of Chevy Chase, MD and William and Eileen Sommerville of Quincy; and dear friends, Don and Charlotte Rodenhizer, Sue Winking and James Brian Turkowski.

   Mrs. Schelen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill; a step son, Brock K. Schelen; and her beloved cat, Tiffany.

   Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Chuck Sackett.  Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 6:00 and Monday until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or Madison Park Christian Church.
