Betty Jean (Darnell) Brown

December 26, 1934 ~ March 2, 2014 (age 79)

   Mrs. Betty Jean Brown, 79, of Quincy, died at 6:55 p.m. Sunday (March 2, 2014) in Blessing Hospital.

   Born December 26, 1934 in Quincy, Betty was the daughter of Rufus and Helen DeLonjay Darnell. She married George J. Brown on August 6, 1954 in Quincy. He survives.

   Betty had been employed at Motorola until their closing and then for 28 years at Quincy Compressor until her retirement.  Following her retirement, she was the activity director for the Adams County Homemakers Adult Daycare for several years. Betty was a member of the Machinist Local 822 and Rocky Point Club.

   Betty enjoyed watching and handfeeding the squirrels and birds in her yard daily. Other interests include arts and crafts, designing and fabricating birdhouses, wind chimes and making Halloween costumes. She also loved cooking and baking and will be fondly remembered for the fudge she made.

   Survivors include her husband, George; two sons, Lennie Brown (DeVonna Miller) and Kennie Brown both of Quincy; a daughter, Pennie Kruse (Larry) of Payson, IL; nine grandchildren, Brandy Logsdon (Will), Mandy Colclasure (Dennis), Candi Liverett, Tami Brown, Kindell Brown, Jacob Brown (Regan), Shandi Brown, Cory Brown and Lance Ferguson; nine great grandchildren, Bailey Logsdon, Braiden Colclasure, Carter Logsdon, Logan Colclasure, Daniel McBride, Colton Logsdon, Lachlan McBride, Tamira Durking and Jentry Sweet; two brothers, Vernon Darnell (Ruby) of Blanchard, OK and Harold "Hokie" Darnell (Sylvia) of St. Louis, MO; two sisters, Viola Cooper of Burlington, IA and Eva Overlander of Mendon, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Robert Cook.  Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Thursday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Friday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to the Shriner's Childrens Hospital or Ronald McDonald House.
