BETTY A. DICKSON
Betty A. Dickson, 90, of Quincy died at 7:05 p.m. Saturday (February 27, 2016) at Bickford Cottage.
Born August 26, 1925 in Quincy, Betty was the daughter of George and Mary Jurgensmeier Middendorf. She married John Thomas "Tom" Dickson Jr. on September 4, 1954 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on December 5, 1987.
Betty was a 1943 graduate of Quincy Notre Dame High School and was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Camper Stamper Square Dance Club, was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed league bowling, playing cards, traveling and attending Quincy University Basketball games. Most of all she especially loved spending time with her grandchildren.
Betty was first employed at Illinois State Bank as a teller. She later was employed as an administrative assistant for the Joe Churchill Construction Company for several years until her retirement.
Survivors include a daughter Janet "Jan" Koester (Stephen) of Quincy; a son John Thomas "Tom" Dickson III (Mary Jo) of Defiance, MO; five grandchildren Scott Thomas Koester (fiancee Ashley Goot) of Atlanta, GA, Richard Christopher Dickson (Kelli) of St. Charles, MO, Brooke Elizabeth Wilfley (Zach) of O'Fallon, MO, Andrew "Drew" Stephen Koester of Quincy and Maggie Marie Dickson (fiance Michael Macke) of Defiance, MO. Also surviving is a sister Arlene Schwartz of Carol Stream, IL. Two great grandchildren, Identical twin boys on the way in August. Also surviving are numerous loving nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Dickson was preceded in death by her parents, six brothers Rev. Eugene Middendorf, Ralph Middendorf and his wife Beatrice, James Middendorf and his wife Nita, Robert Middendorf and his wife Dorothy, Walter Middendorf and his wife Bonnie and a young brother George Middendorf Jr.; two sisters Lucille Rapp and her husband Dr. Roy Rapp, Carlene Schmidle and her husband John and a brother in-law Martin Schwartz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Peter Catholic Church Wednesday morning 10:30 a.m. with Monsignor Leo Enlow and Rev. Roy Bauer officiating. Burial will be in St. Boniface Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday morning at St. Peter Catholic Church from 9:45 a.m. until 10:30 a.m.
Memorials may be made to Quincy Notre Dame High School or to Quincy University.
Betty's family would like to thank the nurses and caregivers at Bickford Cottage for all their loving care and support that they gave to Betty.
