CHARLES E. ASH
Mr. Charles E. Ash, 66, of the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, formerly of Payson, Illinois, died at 9:55 a.m. Saturday (January 25, 2014) in the Illinois Veterans Home.
Born July 8, 1947 in Quincy, Charles was the son of Robert M. and Agnes B. Waack Ash.
An avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, Charles enjoyed watching all sports.
Mr. Ash began his career with the U. S. Air Force on August 2, 1966. He was trained in Aircraft Enviroment Systems and management and supervisory courses. He earned the Meritorious Service Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Outstanding Unit Award, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award and the small arms Expert Markmanship Ribbon. He retired as Master Sergeant after 22 years of service on September 30, 1988.
Survivors include his sister, Christine Ash of Quincy; and several nephews, great nieces, great nephews and cousins.
The family also wishes to thank Charles' caregivers, Roy Noble and Louie Catterson, for the love and care they provided over the years.
Mr. Ash was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Robert J. Ash.
Graveside services with Military Honors by Payson V.F.W. Post 2061 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail will be held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 in the Payson New Cemetery with Pastor Steve Disseler officiating.
There will be no visitation, but family and friends are invited to the services.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veterans Home Activity Fund or the Heart and Vascular Center of Blessing Hospital.
