DAVID L. CHENEY

   Mr. David L. Cheney, 82, of Bowen, Illinois, died at 4:05 p.m. Thursday (June 6, 2013)  in Bickford Cottage, Quincy, Illinois.

   Born July 1, 1930 near Loraine, Illinois, he was the son of Dewey and Rosabelle Clark Cheney. He married Joyce Stabler in 1954 in Camp Point, IL, she preceded him in death in March 1968. He then married Charlotte A. Woods Gastler on December 1, 1970 in Palymra, Missouri. She preceded him in death on December 7, 2009.

   David took an active role in his community, serving on the Southeastern School Board for 12 years, the Bowen Village Board and as a Committeeman for the Hancock County Democrats. Mr. Cheney served his country in the U.S. Navy and was  a member of the Bowen American Legion.  In his younger years, David enjoyed bowling, playing softball and baseball but his greatest joy was watching his children participate in school activities, especially basketball.

    A 1948 graduate of Bowen High School, Mr. Cheney began his career at the Morton Seed Company and later worked for the Americana Seed Company, retiring after 36 years as a Regional Sales Manager. In 1964, Dave bought his first farm and was a livestock and grain farmer in the Bowen area until his retirement in 2005.  

   Survivors include four children, Dana Cheney (Paula) of San Antonio, TX,  Craig Cheney (Leanne) of Loraine, IL, Richard Gastler (Gayla) of West Point, IL and Davette Cheney of  Dallas, TX; four grandchildren, Kale Gastler and Andrew Gastler both of West Point, IL, David P. Cheney (Melody) and  Hannah Cheney both of San Antonio, TX; an Aunt, Mabel Schoenheider of Peoria and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Mr. Cheney was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives, Joyce and Charlotte; four brothers and two sisters.

   Graveside services  will be held Monday  morning at 10:00 in the Bowen Cemetery in Bowen, Illinois with Pastor Henry Pratt officiating

   Visitation will be Sunday afternoon from 3:00 to 6:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy.

   Memorials may be made to Bowen Cemetery or the Bowen Veterans Memorial.
