Mr. Dean Schroeder, 79, of the Illinois Veteran's Home, Quincy, died at 5:30 p.m. Thursday (September 27, 2012) at the Illinois Veteran's Home.
Born March 11, 1933 in Quincy, Dean was the son of Edgar and Florence Anna Kerksick Schroeder. He was married to Sadilee Thyson Beaudet.
Mr. Schroeder served his country in the U. S. Army during the Korean War. He had been active with Christ Lutheran Church and enjoyed golfing. Dean loved music and was an accomplished saxaphone player, playing for many years in the area as an original member of Ben Bumbry and the Messengers.
A 1951 graduate of Quincy High School and a graduate of Gem City Business College, Dean was an independent Accountant. He owned and operated Capital Business Service in Quincy for many years, retiring in 1994 due to health.
Survivors include two sons, Douglas Schroeder (Lori) and Michael Schroeder (Cheryl) both of Quincy; three grandchildren, Logan Schroeder, Courtney Schroeder and Olivia Schroeder; a sister, Karen L. Blair of Quincy; and two step sisters, Naomi Austin (Richard) of Mendon and Betty Tenhouse (Harold) of Quincy.
Mr. Schroeder was preceded in death by his parents; and a step brother, Robert Erke.
The family wishes to extend a debt of gratitude to all of the medical professionals who provided care for Mr. Schroeder over the last several years.
Cremation rites have been accorded to Mr. Schroeder. Memorials services will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 in All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy by the Rev. John Adams.
Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery in Quincy.
There is no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the memorial service. The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Memorials may be made to the QHS Music Department or the Illinois Veteran's Home Activity Fund.
