Dolores L. Wemhoener

August 20, 1929 ~ August 1, 2018 (age 88)


 Dolores L. Wemhoener, 88, of Quincy, passed away at 10:16 pm Wednesday (August 1, 2018) in Blessing Hospital. 

 Born August 20, 1929 in Quincy, Dolores was the daughter of George and Lillian Balzar Mating Sr.  She married Gerald J. Wemhoener on June 3, 1951 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on December 20, 1990. 

 Dolores was a 1947 graduate of Quincy High School and Gem City Business College.  She was also a graduate of the Quincy Conservatory School of Music.  She was a longtime member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ where she was well known for playing the piano for the Saturday evening services.  Dolores enjoyed flower gardening, reading, playing Bridge, going to the Quincy Park Band Concerts and was a St. Louis Cardinal Baseball Fan.  Dolores was a former member of the Quincy Conservatory School of Music and the Illinois State Music Teacher Association.  She was also a  member of the Meet and Eat Club and served as Past President of the PTA at Adams School.

  Dolores in her early years had worked as a secretary in the Loan Department at The Illinois State Bank and later as a secretary for Judge Robert Hunter.  She taught piano for over 70 years in her home sometimes having as many as 58 students and adults a week.

 Survivors include two sons, Theodore "Ted" Wemhoener (Sandy) of Quincy and Jeffrey Stuart "Stu" Wemhoener (Marci) of Jacksonville, IL; a daughter, Pamela "Pam" Myers (John) of Quincy; 10 grandchildren, Andrew "Andy" Myers, Julie Myers-Buczynski (Brian) of Estero, FL, Alex Wemhoener of St. Louis, Amy Wemhoener of Chicago, Charles Garett Lamberson (Bridgett) of Quincy, Donald Jason Lamberson of Quincy, Shonda Lamberson (Frank Courtois) of Clayton, Nathan Lamberson of Decatur, IL, Taylor Wemhoener (Anthony Van Zandt) of Edwardsville, IL, Rachel Wemhoener of Quincy; 13 great grandchildren Drew, Jack, An expected grandson in September, Shane, Benjamin, Noah, Ellie, Jaedyn, Reilly, Chayce, Schuyler, Seth, Spencer.  Also surviving is a sister in-law Marilyn Mating of Quincy and nieces and nephews.

 Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Gerald and a brother George Mating. 

 Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 a.m. in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson funeral home with Pastor Steve Disseler officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount cemetery. 

 Visitation will be held Sunday evening from 3:00 until 6:00 p.m. in the Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Quincy Park Band.
