DORIS "JEAN" (KURFMAN) HAMANN
D. Jean Hamann, 89, of Quincy, passed away at 5:40 p.m. Sunday (March 4, 2018) in Good Samaritan Home.
Born May 15, 1928 in Brown County, Illinois near Siloam Springs, Jean was the daughter of William Ross and Elizabeth Maye Wing Kurfman. She married Lester A. Hamann on June 28, 1947 in East St. Louis, Illinois. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2014.
Jean was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ. She enjoyed tending to her garden, bowling and playing golf and loved everybody's babies. Jean was devoted to her family and she cherished the time she shared with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Jean was employed at Motorola for many years until her retirement.
Survivors include four children, Carla Daggett (Gary) of Quincy; Wanda L. Hamann-Salsman of Quincy, Dennis "Denny" Hamann (April Butler) of Quincy; Julie Clapper (Gary) of Payson, IL. Three grandchildren, Teena Obert (Chuck), Tim Daggett (Brenda) and Johnathan Hamann (Kia) all of Quincy; seven step grandchildren, Dawn Whitcomb (Charles), Carrieann Hodge Cannady, both of Quincy, Andrew Salsman (Tresh) of Palmyra, MO and Kenny Salsman of St. Clair, MO, Amy Veach (Jamie) of Ursa, IL, John Salsman II of Arcadia, WI and Junior Whitcomb (Meshella) of Weymouth, England; eight great grandchildren, Jerad Obert, Jacob Obert, Jennifer Obert, Alyssa Daggett, Ashley Daggett, Adler Hamann, Genevieve Hamann and Liviana Hamann; five great great grandchildren, Lilly, Tyson, Pearl, Aiden and Mya; thirteen step great grandchildren, Errick Salsman, Breanna Salsman, Hailey Mortimer, Gavin Salsman, Kaitlyn Salsman, Sawyer Veach, Alesha Whitcomb, Maisie Whitcomb, Jenna Meredith, James Meredith and Jessie Meredith; two step great great grandchildren, Braden Meredith and Sawyer Winfield; a brother Alvin Kurfman of Quincy and many loving nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester; a granddaughter Danielle Hamman, a step grandson, Dylan Muldoon; a brother, Clyde Kurfman; and eleven sisters, Lurance Kurfman, Ruth Butler, Esther Bennett, Dolly Kurfman, Pearl Baxa, Margaret Davis, Lois Jones, Vivian Smith, Bertha McPhail, Evangeline "Ginger" Dougherty and Marian Mayfield; a son in law, John Salsman.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Disseler officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Thursday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Salem Church or the Quincy Humane Society.
