Doris I. Norris, 90, of Quincy, died at 9:55 p.m. Thursday (June 30, 2016) at Good Samaritan Home.
Born September 28, 1925 in LaJunta, Colorado, Doris was the daughter of Joseph and Ruby Shaffer Zimmerman.
Doris was a graduate of Ordway High School in Ordway, Colorado and from business school in Pueblo, Colorado. Following her graduation, she moved to Chicago, Illinois and was employed at the Illinois Athletic Club where she met her future husband, John H. Norris, who was in Chicago on a business trip. She and John were married on July 6, 1946 in Quincy where they made their home. In later years, Doris and John loved to spend the winters in Arizona.
Doris was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ for over 50 years. She loved helping others and was a volunteer at the Blessing Hospital Tea Room for many years. A longtime member of Spring Lake Country Club, Doris was an avid golfer and won the Women's Club Championship 4 times. She also enjoyed playing Bridge with her Bridge Club at Spring Lake and for many years volunteering at the Pepsi Little Peoples Golf Championship.
Survivors include a son, Dr. John H. Norris Jr. (Jackie) of Quincy; two daughters, Judy Argabright (Marion) of Quincy and Jill Adams (Terry) of Quincy; six grandchildren, Michael Norris (Misty) of Quincy, IL, Chad Argabright of Quincy, Amy Thomas (Brian) of Quincy, IL, Jennifer Zilch (Paul) of England, Stacy Atteberry (Mike) of Quincy and Jon Adams (Lisa) of Chicago, IL; eleven great grandchildren; Alba Norris, Ben, Alex and Ava Thomas, Alaina, Aubrey and Dylan Atteberry, Emily and Liam Zilch, Cora and Sam Argabright; a sister, Lora Jean Porter (Leon) of Fayetteville, AR; one brother in law, Bob Norris (Lena) of Jacksonville, MO; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; a granddaughter, Krista Elizabeth Norris; six brothers, Gary Zimmerman, Donald Zimmerman, Loren Zimmerman, Nolen Zimmerman, Glen Zimmerman and Irwin "Buddy" Zimmerman; five sisters, Faye Karstetter, Shirley Mills, June Weatherly, Darlene Littrell and Betty Lou Hutchens; and a brother in law, Donald Norris.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning (July 9, 2016) at 11:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Steve Disseler. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday morning from 9:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.
