Doris J. (Exon) Utter

October 11, 1925 ~ November 11, 2018 (age 93)



   Doris Jeanette Utter, 93, a longtime Quincy resident, passed away at 9:30 p.m. Sunday (November 11, 2018) at Good Samaritan Home where she had been living since her Alzheimers diagnosis several years ago.

   Born October 11, 1925 on a farm near Maywood, Missouri, Doris was the daughter of James Theodore "Ted" and Alice Exon. Doris attended Lewistown High School and was a 1944 graduate of Quincy High School. Upon her graduation from Gem City Business College, Doris began work at Brown Drug Company and later at Quincy Stove Company.

    She married Charles J. Utter on December 10, 1947 in Quincy and they farmed in Adams County for several years until moving back to Quincy in 1965.  Doris then worked as a secretary in the Adams County Treasurer's Office for 11 years until her retirement.  

    Doris was a member of Madison Park Christian Church. She enjoyed cross stitching, listening to music and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Doris loved working on her family genealogy following her retirement and gifted her family with the vast amount of work she completed.

   Survivors include three children, Lee Utter of St. Charles, IL, Carl Utter of Jacksonville, FL and Karen Brooks of St. Charles, MO; four grandchildren, Joseph Brooks (Danielle), Nathan Brooks (Brittany), Andrew Brooks and Megan Utter; and three great grandchildren, Jadan Burkett, Charleigh Brooks and Titus Brooks.

    Doris was preceded in death by her parents; her step father, Cecil Smith; her husband, Charles on July 25, 1976; and a son, Terry Utter on March 15, 2011.
   Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Chaplain James Riley officiating.  Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Saturday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to Madison Park Christian Church.
