Dorothy A. (O'Dear) Allen

September 3, 1925 ~ September 18, 2015 (age 90)

   Dorothy A. Allen, 90, of Quincy, died at 10:15 p.m. Friday (September 18, 2015) in Good Samaritan Home.

   Born September 3, 1925 in Mendon, Illinois, Dorothy was the daughter of Thomas and Minnie Gooding O'Dear. She married Harry Allen on April 4, 1959 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on November 30, 1981.

   Dorothy was a member of Luther Memorial Church. She loved arts and crafts, sewing, crocheting and solving puzzles.  

   Dorothy devoted her life raising her family and cherished the time she spent with them.

   Survivors include four children, Phyllis Hanawalt (Donald) of Canton, IL, Sally VonBurg of Quincy; Fred Allen (Laurie) of Quincy and Ted Allen (Mary Kay) of Canton, MO; a daughter in law, Nancy Breuer of Quincy;  ten grandchildren, Jeannie Starman (J.R.), Diane Hodges (Rodney), Ruth Ann Martin (Rich), Robert VonBurg, Aaron VonBurg, Mark Hanawalt, Carie Hanawalt, David Breuer (Chatty), Julie Jackson (Troy) and Cassie Allen; and many loving great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

   Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; a son, Junior Breuer; a grandson in infancy, Warner VonBurg; two sisters, Frieda O'Dear and Okel O'Dear; and three brothers, Harold O'Dear, Ray O'Dear and Earl O'Dear.

   Cremation has been accorded to Dorothy. Memorial graveside services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 in the Paloma Cemetery, Paloma, Illinois by Chaplain James Riley.

   There is no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the memorial graveside services.

   The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

   Memorials may be made to Wings Comfort Care at Good Samaritan Home or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
