Dr. Gary E. Schluckebier

May 5, 1944 ~ September 30, 2018 (age 74)


   Dr. Gary Schluckebier, 74, of Quincy, passed away at 9:28 a.m. Sunday (September 30, 2018) in Blessing Hospital.

   Born May 5, 1944 in Hannibal, Missouri, Gary was the son of Emmett and Louise Mette Schluckebier.  He married Linda Ann Shull on May 26, 1968 in Quincy.  She preceded him in death on October 1, 2000.  He married Cathy Y. Stinson on July 6, 2002 in Quincy.  She survives.

   Gary proudly served his country in the U. S. Army during the Vietnam War. He received the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal and a Letter of Commendation.   

   Gary was a member of Riverside Community Church.  He enjoyed tending to his garden and bird watching.

   Gary's faith and ministry for his Lord, Jesus was most important in his life.  Gary was ordained and licensed into the ministry in May, 1988 with the Assemblies of God. He received an Honorary Doctorate Degree from Trinity International University on July 27, 2003  Gary co-founded Addicts Victorious and Veterans Victorious as well as National Wear a Cross Day, which is held on the 3rd Wednesday of July each year.  Gary served as a Chaplain at Blessing Hospital and at the Quincy Senior Center and hosted two shows on WTJR, "Outreach Connection" and "Pray America".

   Gary was called as an Associate Pastor at Faith Assembly of God Church in Quincy, as Senior Pastor at Cahokia Assembly of God Church, Cahokia, IL and Rushville Assembly of God Church, Rushville, IL and was still serving as Associate Pastor at Riverside Community Church in Quincy.

    Survivors include his wife, Cathy; his children,  Lisa Lawler (Jay) of Quincy, Rev. Matthew Schluckebier (April) of Tifton, GA, Rev. Daniel Schluckebier (Jennifer) of Jesup, GA, Rev. Jamie Schluckebier (Leslie) of Tifton, GA and Nicole Cain (Rich) of Quincy;  seventeen grandchildren, Katelyn Hefta (Erik), Allison Lawler, Olivia Lawler, Josef Lawler, Nathaniel Lawler, Lauren McClellan (Jay), Adah Grace Schluckebier, Josiah Schluckebier, Aubrey Schluckebier, Ethan Schluckebier, Micah Schluckebier, Elijah Schluckebier, Graceson Schluckebier, Jasmine Schluckebier, Isaiah Schluckebier, Lauren Allen and Audra Cain; four great grandchildren, Charlotte Hefta, Margaret Hefta, Raegan McClellan and Ross Thomas McClellan; three brothers, Dr. Lee Schluckebier (Shirley) of Seward, NE, John Schluckebier (Kay) of Salisbury, MO and Robert Schluckebier (Paula) of Keytesville, MO; and many loving nieces and nephews.

   Gary was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Linda; and two grandsons, Alexander James Lawler and Gavin James Schluckebier.
   Arrangements are in the care of the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.

    Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:00 in Faith Assembly of God Church, 4000 State Street, with Pastor Dennis Amsler, Pastor V. Lee Amsler and Pastor Ted Middleton officiating.  Burial with Military Honors by Quincy American Legion Post No. 37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 8:00 and Thursday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at Faith Assembly of God Church.

   Memorials may be made to Riverside Community Church or to National Wear a Cross Day in care of Riverside Community Church.
