Elda D. Herleman

November 7, 1912 ~ February 25, 2016 (age 103)

   Elda D. Herleman, 103, of Quincy, died at 7:25 a.m. Thursday (February 25, 2016) in Good Samaritan Home.

   Born November 7, 1912 in Quincy, Elda was the daughter of Henry E. and Johanna Appenbrink Herleman.

   Elda was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ where she had served on the Salem Church Council, sang with the Salem Choirsters and was the superintendent of the Junior Sunday School Department for 30 years.  Elda and her two sisters sang as the Herleman Trio at church and for various programs and funerals.  She loved helping others by serving as a volunteer for RSVP for many  years.  

   A graduate of Quincy High School, Elda attended Gem City Business College and Quincy College.  She had worked at Ely Walker and then at Celotex as a payroll clerk for several years retiring in 1979.  She later worked in the offices at the Moeller-Vandenboom Lumber Company retiring in 1989.

   Survivors include her sister, Mrs. Flora Tucker of Quincy; a great niece, Carlene Reynolds (Bernard) of St. Ann, MO; and two great great nephews, Tony Reynolds and Steven Reynolds.

   Elda was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Chester E. Herleman; a sister, Hazel Herleman; a niece, Barbara Van Tieghem; and a nephew, David Tucker.

   Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Disseler officiating.  Private burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Monday from 12:00 Noon until the time of services at the funeral home.

  Memorials may be made to Salem Church or Good Samaritan Home.
