Elma Jean Meado, 77, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of West Point, Illinois, died at 2:17 a.m. Saturday (January 10, 2015) in Blessing Hospital.
Born January 16, 1937 in Sutter, Illinois, Jean was the daughter of Arthur Thomas and Madeline Yoe Heimer. She was married to William W. Whitfield III who preceded her in death. She married Robert W. "Bob" Meado on April 7, 1973 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on November 28, 2009.
Jean was a member of the Assembly of God Church in Augusta, Illinois and Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN). Jean enjoyed reading her Bible, listening to country and christian music, especially the Gaithers and Pat Robertson, cooking, dancing, solving word search puzzles, Bingo, trying her luck with the lottery and playing games with friends and family. Jean also loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing.
Jean devoted her life to her family and cherished the time she spent with her children and grandchildren. Jean was employed at Bird's Drug Store, King's Drug Store, Davis Cleaver, Motorola, Shelor Globe and then at Sunset Home as a Health Aide until her retirement.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Lee Whitfield Sr. and his wife Theresa of Quincy and William Thomas Whitfield Sr. and his wife Tammy of West Point, IL; three grandchildren, Kenneth Lee Whitfield Jr., William Michael Whitfield and his wife Jenny and William Thomas Whitfield Jr.; three great grandsons, Corbin Christensen, Keegan Matthew Whitfield and Jayden Michael Whitfield; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Meado was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and two sisters, Mildred Wagy and Rosella Burch.
Funeral services will be Wednesday afternoon at 1:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy by the Rev. Patsy Spratt. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home in Quincy.
