Forest Edwin Baucom

Forest Edwin Baucom, 86, of Liberty, Illinois went to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday, June 7, 2012. Forest was born on September 27, 1925 in New Canton, Illinois, a son of the late Lawrence & Dora (Clinging) Baucom. Forest married Ruth (Zeiger), a daughter of the late Bryan and Ethel (Hanke) Zeiger on August 25, 1945, in Concord Lutheran Church in Clayton, IL. She survives.
Forest lived most of his early life in rural Pike County and attended Pike County Schools and Liberty High School. After moving to Adams County he and Ruth resided in the Liberty area for 66 years and raised their family of five children. He was known to many in the community as "Duke". Shortly after his marriage to Ruth, he left to proudly serve his country in World War II. He served in the 11th Air Borne Division as a paratrooper in Japan, and was a member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars and Liberty American Legion Post #640. Forest was a farmer and in his later years drove a school bus for Liberty Community Unit #2 and helped his son John deliver propane gas for a few years. He was very active in the Liberty community and enjoyed giving to others. Forest was a member of St. Peter*s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lost Prairie and served on the church council. He was also a member of the Liberty Fire Department where he served as president and was instrumental in establishing emergency medical services in the Liberty community and later served as a volunteer ambulance driver. He was a member of the Liberty Lions Club, holding various offices. He and Ruth were honored as Liberty Fall Celebration Parade Marshalls in 2005. Forest also served as Liberty Township Clerk for 26 years, and on the Liberty School Board, Adams County Fair Board, and was a PASA Park member. In his spare time he enjoyed collecting and restoring John Deere tractors and participating in the Old Tyme Association. He enjoyed horses, hunting, fishing, woodworking, and playing cards. He dearly loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren and attending their school events.
In addition to his wife of 66 years, he is deeply loved and sadly missed by his surviving 5 children and by his 17 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren who lovingly called him "Pa". Surviving children are a daughter, Vicky Parn (Lyle), a son, John Baucom (Jane), a daughter, Cheryl Kroencke (Brad), a son Chuck Baucom (Diane), and a daughter, Beth Ormond (Sam) all of Liberty; the grandchildren are Laura Essington (Brad) of Quincy, Steve Parn (Laura) of Foristell, MO, Janette Brinkman (Brian), Jill Knuffman (Clint), John Jr. Baucom (Kelly), Jessica Baucom, Josh Baucom and his financee Kristine Schaller all of Liberty. Jason Kroencke (Terri Lynn) of Liberty, Mark Kroencke (Heather) of Lake in the Hills, IL. Deana Baucom of Las Cruces, NM, Jacob Baucom (Dorian) of Oklahoma City, OK, Thomas Baucom of Clayton, and Mona Lara (Dillon) of Columbia, MO, Sarah Young (Rob) of Quincy, Samuel Jr., Shelli and Shane Ormond all of Liberty. The great grandchildren are Briana and Brady Essington of Quincy, Emma and Logan Parn of Foristell, MO, Isabella Brinkman of Liberty, Cody, Abigail, Carter and Caden Knuffman of Liberty, Carson Baucom of Liberty, Beau Baucom of Liberty, Avery Jane Kroencke of Liberty, a baby girl Kroencke due in August of Lake in the Hills, IL and Donovan Baucom of Oklahoma City, OK, Forest is also survived by his siblings James Baucom and (Irene) of Camp Point, Martha Baucom, and twin brothers Ronnie Baucom and (Sharon), Roger Baucom and (Loretta) all of Macomb and Richard Baucom of Quincy. In addition he is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and their families.
A celebration of Forest's life will begin on Sunday, June 10th at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home, Quincy, Illinois. The Baucom Family will meet with family and friends from 4:00 to 7:00 and Monday afternoon from 12:00 until time of services at the church.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 11th at 1:00 p.m. at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lost Prairie, Camp Point, Illinois by Pastor Ronald F. Graham. Burial with Military Honors by Payson V. F. W. Post 2061 will be at Lost Prairie Cemetery.
