Gerald E. "Pat" Hickerson

October 10, 1923 ~ September 1, 2016 (age 92)

   Gerald Ellis "Pat" Hickerson, 92, of Quincy, died at 10:32 p.m. Thursday (September 1, 2016) in Sunset Home.

   Born October 10, 1923, in Quincy, Pat was the son of George Ellis and Clara Elnora Woerman Hickerson.  He married Margie Irene Morgan in Hannibal, Missouri.  She survives.

   Pat loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing and tending to his gardens. He was a member of the Teamster's Union Local No. 83 AFSCME and Twin Oaks Club.

   Mr. Hickerson had been employed with the City of Quincy Street Department and the State of Illinois Highway Department for 35 years until his retirement. Pat had the distinction of being the state's first heavy equipment operator.

   Survivors include his wife, Margie; two sons, Roger Hickerson (Cheryl) of Payson and Patrick "Skip" Hickerson (Marsha) of Quincy; two daughters, Patricia Wells (Eddie) and Sue Crossan (Richard) both of Quincy; eight grandchildren, Caroline Ripper (Dean) of Quincy, Jeff Wells (Monica) of Jonesboro, AR, Tami Wisely (Todd) of Coatsburg, Stacy Smith (Dan) of Quincy, Brent Hickerson (Brandy) of Quincy, Jeremy Crossan (Chris) of Quincy, Kelli Platt (Teddy) of Hull and Erik Hickerson of Durham, MO; twenty great grandchildren; and two great great grandchildren.

   Mr. Hickerson was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Shirley Dyer (Charles); and a nephew, Charles Dyer.

   Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 11:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Woodard officiating.  Burial will be in Greenmout Cemetery.

   Visitation will be held Tuesday morning from 10:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.

   Memorials may be made to Unity Point Hospice or to Sunset Home.
