GERALD W. "JERRY" SQUIRES
Gerald W. Squires, 62, of Quincy, died at 12:04 a.m. Tuesday (January 28, 2014) in Blessing Hospital.
Born June 16, 1951 in Quincy he was the son of Lloyd and Margaret Leindecker Squires. He married Sharon E. Harris on May 19, 1995 in Quincy. She survives.
Gerald was a 1969 graduate of Quincy High School attended Gem City Business College. He was a member of the Machinist Union and enjoyed bike riding, gardening and was an avid Chicago Bears and Cubs fan. Gerald loved to joke and tease with his friends and loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren.
He was a composer/printer at the Quincy Herald Whig for 27 years then later worked at Hollister-Whitney for 8 years, retiring in 2006 due to ill health.
Survivors include his wife, Sharon; a son, Ricky A. Squires (Ashley) of Quincy; four daughters, Sara M. Squires of Carbondale, IL, Tanya S. Squires of Riverton, IL, Amanda E. Squires of Hamilton, IL and Crystal L. Squires of Quincy;eight grandchildren, Kelsi R. Barney (Brandon) of Decatur, Evan J. Keeney of Riverton, Abby G. Squires of Hamilton, Aubrey N. Squires, Parker J. Squires, Cooper W. Squires, Adalynn E. Squires and Bentley K. Squires all of Quincy; three brothers, Ronald Squires of Barry, Michael Squires of Quincy and Rick Squires (Kim) of Keokuk; a sister, Susan Wagy (Robert) of Fowler. Also surviving are several loving nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Mr. Squires was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son, Jeffery, a brother, Paul Leindecker; two infant grandchildren, Hannah and Haley Squires.
Graveside services will be held Friday morning at 11:00 in Greenmount Cemetery with Pastor Jim Dennis officiating.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.
