HAROLD "KAY" JENKINS
Harold "Kay" Jenkins, 79, of Liberty, Illinois, died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday (February 11, 2017) in his home in Liberty.
Born September 2, 1937 in Quincy, Kay was the son of Harold and Dorothy Pearl Kirkley Jenkins. He married Betty L. Meyer on November 19, 1955 in Quincy. They celebrated their 61st Anniversary this past November. Betty survives.
Kay was a longtime member of Liberty Christian Church. He enjoyed camping and traveling, driving to Alaska with Betty in 2009. Kay loved horseback riding, working on the farm tending to the horses and livestock, but he especially loved spending time with and taking his grandkids horseback riding.
Kay was employed at Interstate Producers Livestock Association for 30 years. He also owned and operated Jenkins Truck Line from 1980 to 1991 and also helped his son, Doug, on the family farm. Following his retirement, Kay worked part time at Car Quest Auto in Quincy.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Betty; a son, Doug Jenkins (Jan) of Liberty; a daughter, Deb Roberts (Jerry) of Liberty; five grandchildren, Dustin Jenkins (Meaghan), Adam Jenkins (Jenna), Wade Jenkins, Brooke Klauser and Grant Roberts; five great grandchildren, Braden Jenkins, Aubrey Jenkins, Ryann Jenkins, Faith Klauser and Hope Klauser; two brothers, Gary Jenkins (Marguerite) of Hellam, PA and Gayle Jenkins (Betty) of Rushville, IL; a brother in law, Jim Harris of Quincy; a sister in law, Donna Jenkins of Jacksonville, FL; and many loving nieces and nephewes.
Mr. Jenkins was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Lane Jenkins; a brother, Medford Jenkins; and a sister, Marilyn Harris.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 in the Liberty Christian Church with Pastor Terry Henry officiating. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Thurday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at Liberty Christian Church.
Memorials may be made to the Liberty Christian Church or the Liberty Education Foundation.
