HELEN M. HOAGLAND
Mrs. Helen M. Hoagland, 101, of Quincy, died at 1:15 a.m. Sunday (March 11, 2012) in the home of her daughter Kaye Locke.
Born March 3, 1911 in Quincy, Helen was the daughter of Floyd M. and Stella Nebe Hibbard. She married John C. Hoagland on April 16, 1932 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on July 20, 1964.
Helen was a member of Luther Memorial Church and was confirmed on April 13, 1924. Her life long love for God and the reading of the Bible sustained her strong faith.. She loved being with children and animals and enjoyed working in her yard, tinkering with anything that was broken, vegetable gardening, canning and making her famous noodles. When Helen was a small child she would follow the fire wagon that was pulled by horses. In her life of 101 years she went from horse and buggy to the automobile, to the airplane and to see a man on the moon.
Helen devoted her life to raising her family and her home was open to anybody who needed help.
Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis J. Williams of Quincy and Kaye Locke of Quincy; three grandchildren, Vicki King (David) of Quincy, Dan Dane (Arlene) of Sterling, Co and Phillip "Joe" Locke (Joleen) of Sterling, Co; seven great grandchildren Robert Shuker, Katie Shuker, Danny Dane, Minde Dane, Kayla Locke, Brandon Locke, Ashley Locke and a great great granddaughter Chloe Shaffer.
Mrs. Hoagland was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother Milton Hibbard; two sisters Ruth Bourne and Beatrice Hargraves and one grandson Edward Clay Locke II
Graveside services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:00 p.m in Greenmount Cemetery by the Rev. Chris Hale.
There is no visitation but friends are invited to attend the graveside services. The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
