HELEN L. SMITH
Helen Louise Smith, 89, of Quincy, died at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday (June 28, 2016) in Good Samaritan Home.
Born February 14, 1927 in Quincy, Illinois, Helen was the daughter of Eugene Martin and Catherine Hannah (Elligsen) Heinecke. She married Harry F. Smith on October 12, 1946 at Salem Church in Quincy. He preceded her in death on October 30, 2009.
Helen was a life long active member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ where she was a member of the Afternoon Guild. A Die Hard Cubs fan, Helen was also an avid bowler, bowling on the same Tuesday night league in Quincy for 60 years.
Helen was a graduate of Quincy High School. She devoted her life to her family who will be remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, sister, aunt, caregiver and babysitter.
Survivors include her two sons, Harry Smith II (Penny) of Springfield, IL and Garry Smith (Kim) of Harrisburg, NC; five grandchildren, Heather Ivers (Pat) of Athens, IL, Jason Smith (Kelly) of O' Fallon, MO, Corry Smith (Tiffiny) of Fairfield, CA, Abbey Smith of Harrisburg, NC, Emily Smith of Harrisburg, NC; ten great grandchildren, Ilona and Katelyn Ivers of Springfield, IL, Dylan Doggette of Harrisburg, NC, Preston Roper of Harrisburg, NC, Matthew, Ryan and Hailey Smith of O' Fallon, MO, Natalie, Lily, and Lindsey Smith all of Fairfield, CA; a brother, Dale Heinecke (Dorothy) of Madison, WI; three sisters, Frances Keppner of Lewistown, MO, Kay Ginther (Steve) of Quincy, and Frances Ann Heinecke of Quincy; a step brother, Frank "Sonny" Hutmacher (Georgetta) of Springfield, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; a brother, Eugene Richard "Bud" Heinecke; and a step sister, Viola Hutmacher- Suits.
Graveside services will be held Saturday afternoon at 12:15 in Greenmount Cemetery with Pastor Richard Martin officiating.
Visitation will be Saturday morning from 11:00 to 12:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Good Samaritan Home or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
