JAMES A. VON HOLT
James A. Von Holt, 84, of Quincy, died at 3:30 p.m. Sunday (October 25, 2015) in Blessing Hospital.
Born August 31, 1931, in Quincy, James was the son of Virgil and Mamie Lucille Hultz Von Holt. He married Vera Gollaher and she preceded him in death in 2008.
Jim proudly served his country in the Army during the Korean War. He was awarded two bronze stars with the oak leaf cluster for his bravery in combat.
Jim was an all around handyman and tinkerer and could fix almost anything mechanical. He was a skilled sheet metal worker, doing the architectural work on various church steeples in the Quincy area. His most enjoyable hobby was riding his motorcycle.
Jim was a member of the International Association of Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 91 from 1952 until 1993. He worked for Frank Arnold which later became Stroots Quincy Heating and Air and then at RW Cardella Co. in Keokuk, Iowa until his retirement.
Survivors include a son, Daniel Von Holt (Barb) of New Port Richey, FL; a daughter, Georgia Schults of Orland, CA; four grandchildren, Marty Schults (Tiffany) and Tierra Schults of both of Orland, CA, and Kiki Von Holt and Christine Von Holt both of Orlando, FL; and a great grandson, Jack Schults of Orland, CA.
Mr. Von Holt was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Donald Von Holt; and a son-in-law, John Schults.
A private family graveside service will be held in Greenmount Cemetery.
