Jean M. McComas

   Jean M. McComas, 85, of Bloomington, IL formerly of Quincy died at 10:27 a.m. Saturday (February 14, 2015) in the Heritage Manor Healthcare in Bloomington, Illinois.

   Born April 23, 1929 in Waverly, IA, Jean was the daughter of Guy and Alice Wilson Miller.  She first married Glen Standard in Knoxville, IL on November 3, 1951.  He preceded her in death on May 30, 1975.  She then married James M. McComas in Galesburg, IL on June 26, 1976.  He preceded her in death on January 5, 2001.

   Jean was a member of Central Baptist Church in Quincy, IL.  She enjoyed drawing, painting, sewing, ironing, reading, art, gardening, bargain hunting and things that sparkle.

   She was employed early in life as a teacher's aid for special needs children in Galesburg, IL and later as an LPN at St. Mary's Hospital OB Department in Quincy, IL from 1979 until her retirement in 1989.

   Survivors include two daughters Lisa Elsenpeter (Rob) of Bloomington, IL and Laurie Jennings (Bob) of Abingdon, IL; two sons Lonnie Standard of Bloomington, IL and Leon Standard (Felicia) of Greenville, TX; one step-daughter Sarah Dougherty of Quincy; twenty grandchildren Angie Lewis, Marlenna Smysor (Matt), Sabrina Ponish, Gaven Jennings, Kristen Rudicil (Shaun), Kymber Poppins (Ben), Kelli Marion (Chris), Josh Standard, Tim Standard (Jennifer), Connie Jenkins (Joe), Samantha Harrod, Rob Heiden (Melissa), Scott Heiden (Sarah), Jeremy Heiden (Dorina), Vicki Dougherty, Janelle Dolbear (Mike), Amy Barrington, Jeff Wiesenburger (Myrtle), Alex Dougherty (Judy) and Jamie Dougherty (Judy).  Also surviving are two sisters Pat Houston (Terry) of Knoxville, IL, Mildred Schraceo of Galesburg, IL; and numerous great grandchildren.

   Jean was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one step-daughter, Nancy Heiden; and a brother in law, Don Schraceo.

   At Jean's request she has donated her body to medical science.  Jean valued education and knowledge and a strong work ethic.  We will miss her sunny disposition, ever ready smile and unwavering optimism.

   The family wishes to thank the staff of Heritage Manor Healthcare for the affectionate care they provided for Mom over the last five years.

   The family will host a memorial and celebration of Jean's life Saturday February 21, 2015 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the Burr House, 210 E. Chestnut St. Bloomington, IL. 61701.

   In lieu of flowers please make a donation in Jean's name to a charity of your choice.
