KENNETH JOSEPH DAVIS
Kenneth Joseph Davis, 81, of Payson, Illinois, was carried by the angels to his heavenly home at 10:38 p.m. Thursday (February 22, 2018) in his home. He was with his loving family.
Born April 21, 1936 in Quincy, Kenneth was the son of Lester Paul and Marie Meyer Davis. He married the love of his life Marcella Smith on October 24, 1959 in Quincy. She survives.
Kenneth was an avid hunter, fisherman and outdoorsman. He enjoyed working in his yard and tending to his garden. He was a sports enthusiast who enjoyed playing slow pitch softball, golfing, being a member of Bow Lake Golf Course in Barry for many years, playing cards and cheering on the St. Louis Cardinals.
Kenneth and his family attend The Crossing church and he was a U.S. Army veteran. He was devoted to his family and loved spending time with them, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Kenneth was a 1955 graduate and football player of Notre Dame High School. Kenneth was employed for 38 years at Colt Industries, retiring in 1998 as a machine operator. Kenneth was also a member of the Machinist Lodge No. 822.
Survivors include his wife, Marcella; four children, Marla Lair (Don), Joy Sunde (Roger), Yvette Murphy (Chris) and Michael Sean Davis (Holly) all of Payson; ten grandchildren, DJ Lair (Mary), Ian Lair (Britney), Kensey Sunde (fiance', Ryan Grumish), Nathan Sunde, Gage Murphy (Shaquila), Jacob Murphy, Jennifer Davis, Joseph Davis, Taylor Davis and Gracie Davis; nine great grandchildren; four sisters, Sally Howlett, Donna Ransdell, Diane Liesen (David) and Mary Christine Day all of Quincy; two sisters in law, Shirley Davis of Kinderhook, IL and Juanita Shoop (John) of Mendon, IL; a brother in law, Leo Edward Smith (Cindy) of Milwaukee, WI; many loving nieces and nephews, and his beloved Boston Terrier Sophie.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Richard Davis; three sisters, Catherine Ann Torres, Rosie Estrada and an infant, Rose Marie Davis; a brother in law, Robert Howlett; a sister in law,Lenora Erps, and his dearly loved Boston Terrier Peppi.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy with Pastor Jim Dennis officiating. Cremation will be accorded following the funeral service.
Visitation will be Monday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Tuesday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or The Crossing.
Honorary pallbearers will be his son Michael Sean Davis, and grandsons DJ Lair, Ian Lair, Gage Murphy, Nathan Sunde, Jacob Murphy, Joseph Davis, and Taylor Davis.
