Larry L. McMahon

November 9, 1944 ~ September 15, 2015 (age 70)

   Larry Lee McMahon, 70, a former Gibson City resident, died Tuesday (September 15, 2015) at the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy, Illinois.
   Born in Cook County, Illinois on November 9, 1944, Larry was the son of Robert O. and Frances I.  (Donner) McMahon of Gibson City.

   A 1962 graduate of Gibson City High School, Larry attended Eastern Illinois University and later received an Associates Degree from Parkland College.

   Larry served in the United States Air Force from 1967 to 1971 reaching the rank of Sargent.  Stationed at Hickman Field in Hawaii he served as a photo interpreter and was a member of an Air Force surfing team.

   Living in California, Louisiana, and Kuwait, Larry worked with diving companies serving as a cook and underwater welder. He continued his love of adventure and technology assisting with the development of underwater diving equipment. He returned to the Midwest where he worked at a computer engineer.  He loved the water, photography, technology and movies.

   Larry suffered a massive stroke in 1998, but continued to be independent and active. He lived briefly in Emigrant, MT, before returning to Quincy Veterans Home.

   Larry is survived by many cousins.

   He was preceded in death by his parents.

   A memorial graveside service will be held Saturday morning (October 3, 2015) at 11:00 in the Drummer Township Cemetery in Gibson City, Illinois.

   There is no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the memorial graveside service.  

   Memorials may be directed to the American Legion Lee Lowery Post Christmas Project in Gibson City.
