LAVEITA G. WINGERTER
Mrs. Laveita G. Wingerter, 93, of Sunset Home, formerly of 1431 North 6th and Bradford Villa, Quincy, went to Heaven to be with the Lord at 10:35 a.m. Thursday (May 8, 2014) in Sunset Home.
Born October 5, 1920 in Chapin, Illinois, Laveita was the daughter of George Henry and Ethel L. Wear Surratt. She was united in marrage to George Martin on October 15, 1938 in Bowling Green Missouri. He preceded her in death on March 5, 1967.
Family was everything to Laveita. Her other pastimes were gardening, working crossword puzzles, fishing and mushroom hunting.
Laveita was the mother of three daughters, Betty Estes of Indianola, IA, Joan Smith of Missouri City, TX and Esther Morrison (Ron) of Quincy. Her son, Jerry Martin, was killed in an auto accident on June 5, 1964, on his way home after being discharged from the Army.
She married Lewis Odell Wingerter Sr. on September 6, 1968 in Quincy. He preceded her in death on August 20, 1994.
Laveita has six grandchildren, Gerilynn Morrison of Quincy, Brian Smith (Melanie) of Jacksonville, IL, Don Estes of Indianola, IA, Doug Estes (Cherie) of Long Beach, CA, Jerry Lillig of Joliet, IL and Bobbi Jo Estes Keeney who preceded her in death.
She has eight great grandchildren, Randy Estes (Laura) of Indianola, IA, Shane Estes of Indianola, IA, Wesley Keeney of St. Paul, MN, Tyler Smith of Missouri City, TX, Alex Smith of Buffalo, NY, William Legge of Quincy, Dana Lillig of Grimes, IA and Andrea Lillig of Grimes, IA.
Laveita's blessings extended to three great great grandchildren, Dylan Estes and Haylie Estes both of Des Moines, IA and Abigail Keeney of St. Paul, MN.
Other very special people in Laveita's life include a loving step daugher, Judy Greene of Paloma, IL; a daughter in law, Sally Lillig (Ed) of Aurora, IL. She is also survived by nine step children.
Laveita was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, George and Odell; a son, Jerry Martin; a granddaughter, Bobbi Jo Keeney; five brothers, Melvin Surratt, George Surratt Jr., Orville Surratt, Russell Surratt and Bill Surratt; and four sisters, Freida Simmons, Esther Dennis, Ethel Dennis and Verla Tutt.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Coby Reeves. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Saturday afternoon from 1:00 until the time of services at the funeral home.
