Mr. Lawrence Samuels, 83, of the Illinois Veteran's Home, Quincy, formerly of Chicago, Illinois, died at 1:41 a.m. Friday (May 31, 2013) in Blessing Hospital in Quincy.
Born October 3, 1929 in Chicago, Illinois, Lawrence was the son of Allen and Elizabeth Benford Samuels.
Mr. Samuels served his country in the U. S. Army from 1948 until 1958, seeing action during the Korean War. Following his discharge from active duty, Mr. Samuels served for many years in the Army Reserve.
Mr. Samuels was employed as a switchboard operator for the U. S. Department of Defense in Chicago for many years until his retirement.
Survivors include a son, Lawrence Samuels Jr. of Dolton, IL; a daughter, Pamela Samuels of Ruston, LA; two grandsons, Vaughnn Samuels (Ebonie) of Dolton, IL and Ramone Samuels of Lansing, IL; three great grandchildren, Dazjah Samuels, Savion Samuels and Vaughnn Samuels Jr.; and many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Mr. Samuels was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Melvin A. Samuels.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 in the All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veteran's Home by the Rev. John Adams. Burial with Military Honors will be in Sunset Cemetery at the Veteran's Home.
Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 at the All Faiths Chapel at the Illinois Veteran's Home.
