Leo E. Herzog

May 10, 1935 ~ November 17, 2015 (age 80)

   Leo E. Herzog, 80, of Quincy, died at 4:55 p.m. Tuesday (November 17, 2015) in his home.

   Born May 10, 1935 in Loraine, Illinois , Leo was the son of Ernest and Mildred Thurnhoffer Herzog. On September 5, 1958  he married Betty Potts in Salem Church in Quincy. She preceded him in death on July 27, 2001.  Leo later married Dolores Jacobs Leebold on May 10, 2003 in Quincy. She preceded him in death on July 8, 2012.

   Leo was a 1953 graduate of Warsaw High School.  He then served in the Illinois National Guard Reserves for 6 years.  Leo was a member of Salem Evangelical Church of Christ all of his adult life, and was active in the Salem Brotherhood, and Kings and Queens. He was also a member of the CB radio club in his earlier years, and enjoyed camping, watching NASCAR, St. Louis Blues hockey, and Cub's baseball games.  Leo never met a stranger and was a true friend to many, and valued those friendships.  He greatly enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. He especially loved his grandchildren and watching them grow into young adults.  

   Leo was employed for 28 years at the Electric Wheel Division of Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, until the plant closed.  He then worked  9 years at Quincy Paper Box until his retirement.  

   Survivors include a son, David Herzog (Dawn) of Quincy;  five grandchildren, Joshua Herzog, Ryan Herzog, and Makayla Herzog all of Quincy, Taylor Mueller and Joseph Mueller both of St. Louis, MO; two sisters, Janice Corrigan (Dale) of Quincy and Betty Thompson (Lee) of Niota, IL; also surviving are many loving nieces and nephews

   Leo was preceded in death by his parents; his two wives, Betty and Dolores; two daughters, Dena Morrison and Debra Herzog; and a sister, Eileen Smith.  

   Graveside services will be held Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in Greenmount Cemetery with Pastor Henry Murray officiating.  

   Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.
