Lloyd Helmreich, 98, of Quincy died at 2:05 p.m. Monday (March 11, 2013) in his home.
Born April 7, 1914 near Liberty, Illinois, Lloyd was the son of Peter and Ida Goertz Helmreich. He married Mary Heller in 1949 in Carthage, Illinois. She was killed in a auto accident in 1949. He then married Darlene Klingler on November 2, 1954 in Quincy. She preceded him in death on May 27, 1990.
Lloyd was a member of a nondenominational Christian Fellowship Church. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing and raising ostriches. He wrote and published the book " Hard Times and Happy Memories" in 2011. Early in his life he farmed in the Liberty area and later was employed at the Branch-Hess Vending Co. for many years until his retirement.
Survivors include; a son, Bruce Helmreich (Elizabeth) of Quincy; a daughter, Donna Tangerose (Robert) of Camp Point; six grandchildren, Jessica Tangerose and Ashley Tangerose both of Rushville, IL, Dustin Tangerose of Camp Point, Elissa Besterwitch (Garrick) of Jacksonville, IL, Ryan Helmreich and Emily Helmreich both of Quincy. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Helmreich was preceded in death by his parents; two wives, Mary and Darlene; two brothers, Ralph and Walter Helmreich.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Scott Hanks and Joel Riggs officiating. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.
Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5:00 until 8:00 and Friday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or the Blessing Heart Center.
