LORETTA A. GARRISON
Loretta Alice Garrison, 95, of the Good Samaritan Home, formerly of 3215 College, Quincy, died at 12:34 a.m. Wednesday (October 5, 2016) in Good Samaritan Home.
Born May 28, 1921 in Chicago, Illinois, Loretta was the daughter of Nathan and Esther Wollert Nelson. She married Dervin Eugene Garrison on June 15, 1946 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chicago. He survives.
Loretta attended Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ and was a past member of the Sweet Adelines, Blessing Hospital Auxiliary and sang with the Volunteer Voices for many years. She enjoyed tending to her flower gardens, reading, walking, bird watching, working puzzles and being with her friends and family. Loretta loved to help others and was a volunteer at the Tea Room at Blessing Hospital and Good Samaritan Home for many years. She was the recipient of a volunteer award from Blessing Hospital for her years of service.
A graduate of Kelvyn Park High School, Loretta attended the Carl Schurz night school for classes in stenography. She was employed for the A. C. Nielsen Index and Research Company, Aetna Life Insurance Company and lastly for S. S. Kresge Company until her retirement.
Survivors include her husband of 70 years, Dervin; three sons, Russell Garrison (Sharon) of Quincy, Ronald Garrison (Annette) of Carol Stream, IL and Bradley Garrison (Gloria) of DeKalb, IL; nine grandchildren, Tami Cain (Kevin) of Quincy, Toni Stuckman (Kurt) of Quincy, Kari Bockelmann (Shaun) of Bartlett, IL, Krista Eckhoff (Matthew) of Tampa, FL, Nathan Garrison of Carol Stream, IL, Allan Pearson of Chicago, IL, Sara Todd (Jonathan) of Billings, MT, Benjamin Garrison of Delmar, CA and Andrew Garrison (Amy) of Oregon, IL; nine great grandchildren, Greg Cain, Cameron Cain, Chandler Cain, Tanner Stuckman, Kaiden Linder, Layla Bockelmann, Evan Bockelmann, Dekker Surratt and Obie Garrison; a sister, Ruth Schuldt of Chicago Heights, IL; a nephew, Douglas Schuldt of Homewood, IL; and a sister in law, Katie Neal of Sullivan, IL.
Mrs. Garrison was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers in law, Robert Schuldt and Richard Neal.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:00 in the Good Samaritan Home Chapel with Chaplain James Riley officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Saturday afternoon from 12:00 Noon until the time of services at the Good Samaritan Home Chapel.
