Marilyn (Myers) Schmidt

August 24, 1928 ~ April 20, 2013 (age 84)

   Mrs. Marilyn Schmidt passed away on Saturday evening , April 20, 2013. She was 84.

   Marilyn was the surviving spouse of Russel Schmidt, who died in 1997. Her children were Karen, Randall and Tim.

   Marilyn was a lifelong resident of Quincy. She was born August 24, 1928 to Russell and Ophelia Myers. She graduated from Quincy High School in 1946 and worked at Don's Sweet Shop while in High School. Don's Sweet Shop was owned by Don Schmidt. While working there, Marilyn met her life long love, Don's brother, Russ. Marilyn and Russ were married on June 9, 1948 in Quincy.

   She was a member of Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ where she was active in many church activities, including the Couples Club and Salem Choir.

   Marilyn worked as a secretary at Salem Church, Gardner Denver and the Historical Society of Quincy and Adams County. She enjoyed embroidery, bowling and traveling. She and Russ took many trips with friends, church members and with Russ' work at Knapheide Manufacturing.

   Marilyn was preceded in death by her husband of almost 50 years and her daughter Karen, who died of breast cancer in 2003. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Jean Lerch and her brother, Russ "Shorty" Myers.

   Marilyn is survived by her son, Randall Schmidt and his wife Skipper of Ft. Worth, TX and their children, Walker, Kiley and Drew; her son, Tim Schmidt and his wife Lynn of Matthews, N.C. and their children, Neely and Kelsey; her daughter Karen's children, Matthew, Brett and Dane;  her sister, Terry Moore and her husband Mike of Quincy, Terry's daughter, Carla and Mike's children, Amanda Sperry and Kyle Moore.

   Funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:00 in Salem Evangelical United Church of Christ by Pastor Steve Disseler.  Private interment will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

   Visitation will be Monday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and Tuesday from 12:00 until the time of services at Salem Church.

   Memorials may be made to Salem Church or the Good Samaritan Home.
