MARY E. MURPHY
Mrs. Mary E. Murphy, 93, of Tempe, Arizona, formerly of Quincy, died at 6:10 p.m. Friday (May 2, 2014) in Friendship Village in Tempe, Arizona.
Born October 29, 1920 in Kahoka, Missouri, Mary was the daughter of Henry and Lizetta Seyb Voorvaart. She married John B. Murphy on October 16, 1942 in Kahoka, Missouri. He preceded her in death on July 14, 1986. Mary moved to Arizona in 1988.
While living in Quincy, Mary was a member of Vermont Street United Methodist Church and P.E.O. Chapter IE.
A graduate of Kahoka High School, Mary received her nurses' training at St. Mary Hospital where she graduated in 1941. She was employed as a Registered Nurse at St. Mary Hospital, the Illinois Veteran's Home and for various nursing homes and doctors offices in Quincy. She retired in 1969.
Survivors include a daughter, Marcia Murphy of Plano, TX; a son, Michael Murphy (Ann) of Richardson, TX; three grandchildren, Michelle O'Neill (Michael) of Frisco, TX, Steven Murphy of Seagoville, TX and Kathy Murphy of Frisco, TX; two great grandchildren, Carson O'Neill and Kayla O'Neill; a brother, John Voorvaart of Simsbury, CN; and loving nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Murphy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; and a sister, Martha Lowry.
Mrs. Murphy was cremated. Graveside memorial services will be held Monday afternoon (September 22, 2014) at 2:00 in Quincy Memorial Park.
There is no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the memorial graveside service.
