MARY E. SUMMERS
Mary E. Summers, 78, of Quincy died at 1:15 p.m. Friday (January 3, 2014) in Blessing Hospital.
Born July 29, 1935 in Marblehead, IL, Mary was the daughter of Russell O. and Thelma Doan Poor. She married Louis E. Summers Sr. on November 10, 1952 in Brown County, IL. He preceded her in death on October 12, 2007.
Mary was a 1953 graduate of Quincy High School and a 1979 graduate of the Blessing School of Nursing. She enjoyed working in her flower garden, sewing and reading. Mary made quilts and dolls for all of her grandchildren and especially loved being at the birth of her grandchildren.
Mary was employed as a licensed practical nurse for various nursing homes in the Quincy and Home Health Care until her retirement in 2008.
Survivors include four sons, Louis E. Summers Jr. (Linda) of St. Petersburg, FL, Russell Summers of Sarasota, FL, Ronald Summers (Sherry) of Quincy and Donnie Summers (Peggy) of Palmyra, MO; fifteen grandchildren, Laura, Lindsey, David, Dawn, Brian, Skylor, Jason, Randy, Eric, Shawnna, Shyann, Jeremy, Dawnie Jo, Steven Paul, Mary Gale and several great grandchildren.
Mrs. Summers was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Louis, a daughter Diana Reddick and a brother Russell M. Poor.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday morning 10:00 a.m. in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Shaughnessy officiating. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 and Wednesday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
