Mary Marie Wortman, 83, a resident of The Haven, Sunset Home, passed on to her Heavenly Home at 12:00 Noon on Sunday, October 14, 2012.
Born December 31, 1928 to Chesley and Irene Balsom in Clarenville, Newfoundland, Canada, Marie grew up in Clarenville with a large loving family which included her parents, four sisters, two brothers, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins, most of whom all lived within shouting distance of each other. She moved to the United States at age 18 and spent the majority of her adult life living in Quincy. Although she held a few jobs for a shorter period of time, she worked at Motorola for over 15 years and at Sunset Home for almost 20 years before retiring.
Marie's life centered around her four children. She lovingly raised her children on her own, instilling in all of them how important her family was to her. She was always working, always helping others around her, and always had a spotless house even with four children. If it needed to be done, she was first to help. She was best known for being an excellent cook, and being together at noon for Sunday dinners was very important to her. The timing of her passing was a poignant reminder to her family. She was a member of the family at Open Arms Ministries, and even as her mind deteriorated, her love of God and Jesus Christ was always present.
She is survived by her daughter Judy (Brent) Boden, Iowa; son Michael (Brenda) Wortman, Quincy: grandchildren, Kelly Wortman, Michelle Wortman, Joshua Wortman and Hannah Wortman, Quincy, and Mark Wilson, Palmyra; great grandchildren Kyra White and Elizabeth Harrison, Quincy, and Grace Wilson, Iowa; sister Lossie Kalina (Bill) and brother Roy (Millie) Balsom, both of Clarenville Nfld, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada; and the wonderful, caring Nurses and CNAs at The Haven who became family to her and who treated her with grace, dignity and love while she resided there.
Marie was preceded in death by her sons, Ronnie Wilson and Mark Wortman; her parents; three sisters, Inez Hollett (Jim), Rowena Hussey (Jake) and Bonnie Emberley (Jim), and one brother, Hubert Balsom (Josie).
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Ken Geisendorfer and Pastor Tom Waters. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday evening from4:00 to 7:00 p.m. and Thursday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
