MAURINE E. BAUGHER
Maurine E. Baugher, 85, of Quincy, died at 11:45 a.m. Sunday (February 7, 2016) in Sunset Home.
Born May 7, 1930 in Payson, Illinois, Maurine was the daughter of Foster Giles and Elva R. Gallaher Whitaker. She loved to dance and at one of those dances she met Warren A. Baugher. They were married on May 9, 1948 in Quincy and celebrated 60 years of marriage until his death on May 7, 2008.
A longtime member of the Payson United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, Maurine was also a Den Mother for her son's Cub Scouts troop. She and Warren loved to square dance and were members of the Gem City Square Dance Club, Traveling Tomper's and the Camper Stamper's Square Dance Club. They loved to travel and winter in Florida and Texas with their square dance friends. Maurine's passion for dance also led her to teach line dancing and clogging for many years at the Quincy Senior Center. Maurine loved her family and especially enjoyed having them over for family meals.
At the age of 16, Maurine went to work at the International Shoe Factory in Quincy. She later was employed as a cook at the Payson Grade School for 20 years until her retirement.
Survivors include her three sons, Warren Baugher Jr. (Elizabeth) of Racine, WI, Ronald Baugher of Quincy and Craig Baugher (Lisa) of Joliet; four grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Brantner (Scott) of San Diego, CA, Kathryn Amelia Baugher (Andrew Shuman) of Rosemount, MN, Jeaneen Renee Bohanan (Brett) of Washington, IL and Sherene Rachelle Inghram (Josh) of Quincy; seven great grandchildren, Logan Brantner, Fitzgerald Brantner, Trey Bohanan, Court Bohanan, Aiden Inghram, Addison Inghram and Anderson Inghram; two brothers, Gearold "Buck" Whitaker of Quincy and Russell Whitaker of Yorkville, IL; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Maurine was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Warren; a brother, Samuel Whitaker; four sisters, Glenna Daugherty, Lois Bange, Myrtle Friedhoff, and Lucy Whitaker; and a sister-in-law, Carolyn Whitaker.
A Prayer service will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy with Funeral services at 11:00 in the Payson United Methodist Church by Pastor Annelle Ruemmler. Burial will be in the Payson New Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Saturday morning from 9:00 until 10:00 at the funeral home in Quincy.
Memorials may be made to the Quincy Senior Center or the Payson United Methodist Church.
