Max S. Williams

May 3, 1937 ~ July 28, 2018 (age 81)

MAX  S.  WILLIAMS

   Max S. Williams, 81, of Quincy, passed away at 8:12 a.m. Saturday (July 28, 2018) in Blessing Hospital.

   Born May 3, 1937 in Bowen, Illinois, Max was the son of Kenneth F. and Grace P. Thorton Williams.  He married Elnora "Ellie" Hartley on July 21, 1961 in Ellington Memorial Presbyterian Church in Quincy.  She preceded him in death on June 1, 2008.

   Max was a longtime active member of Bethel Assembly of God Church.  He was a 1955 graduate of Bowen High School where he was active in playing basketball and pitching baseball.  Max was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan.

   Max was employed at Glenayre Electronics in Quincy until their closing. He was then employed at Harris Corporation for many years until his retirement.

   Survivors include a close friend and caregiver who was like a daugher to him, Jacqueline "Jacki" Schaffer (Michael) of Quincy; Jacki's three sons, Christopher Schaffer, Jeremiah Schaffer (Lindsey) and Caleb Schaffer all of Quincy; and Jeremiah's children, Hanna, Paige and Briggs; and several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

   Max was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellie; a brother, Philip Dean Williams; and his beloved pet dog, "Goldie"

   Graveside services will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 in Greenmount Cemetery with Pastor Todd Hastings officiating.

   There is no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the graveside service. Arrangements are in the care of Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.

   Memorials may be made to Unity Point Hospice or Bethel Assembly of God Church.
