MELBA D. LEEZY
Melba D. Leezy, 82, of Plainville, Illinois, died at 11:22 p.m. Monday (July 6, 2015) in her home.
Born September 2, 1932 in Ancell, Missouri, Melba was the daughter of Clyde and Maude Dopp Corey. She married Richard L. Leezy on January 5, 1949 in East St. Louis, Illinois. He preceded her in death on March 20, 2005.
Melba enjoyed reading, canning, baking, camping and fishing with her husband and family. She was a devoted wife and mother who spent the biggest part of her life taking care of her family. Melba cherished the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Melba was employed as a C.N.A. for various nursinig homes and hospitals in the area. She retired in 1993 from St. Vincent's Home.
Survivors include four sons, Richard Leezy (Carolyn) of Hannibal, MO, Ronald Leezy of Belleville, IL, Michael Leezy of Plainville, IL and Terry Leezy of Plainville, IL; four daughters, Mary Ellen Sawyers (Cleveland) of Plainville, IL, Gloria Leezy of Plainville, IL, Jeannie Unglesbee (Kenny) of Quincy and Tina Leezy of Payson, IL; fourteen grandchildren, Cleveland "Butch" Sawyers of Plainville, IL, Robin Kennedy (DeWitt) of Largo, FL, Rod Sawyers (Tiffany) of Payson, IL, Luke Unglesbee of Quincy, Kenneth Unglesbee (Christy) of Kinderhook, IL, Catina Gibbons (Shawn) of Carterville, IL, Ronald Leezy of Tampa, FL, Christopher Leezy of St. Louis, MO, Courtney Nix (Brandon) of Belleville, IL, Tiffany Steinkamp (Alex) of Mendon, IL, Donnie Collins III of Plainville, IL, Mindy Holt (Jason) of Collinsville, IL, T. J. Leezy of Collinsville, IL and Tonya Anderson (David) of Collinsville, IL; twenty six great grandchildren, Crystal Kennedy, Michael Sawyers, Anthony Sawyers, Amber Sawyers (Dodge Gillie), Mackenzie Sawyers, Justin Sheffler, Ashley Sheffler, Autumn Sheffler, Rylee Unglesbee, Keria Unglesbee, Kyley Unglesbee, Jason Holt, Tyler Leezy, Michael Leezy, Ethan Leezy, Parker Leezy, Maddy Leezy, Natalee Unglesbee, Logan Sawyers, Owen Nix, Brooklynn Steinkamp, Justin Holt, Jewlyana Holt, Zachary Leezy, Hope Ames and Lexi Liebig; three great great grandchildren, Jade Clayton, Trey Gillie and Dakota Gillie; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Melba was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard; a daughter, Anita Lynn Leezy; a son, Charles Anthony Leezy; two brothers, Kenny Corey and Johnny Corey; and three sisters, Virginia Earle, Faye Radamaker and Edna Gancer.
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:00 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy by Chaplain Clif Weisinger. Burial will be in Shiloh Cemetery near Plainville.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Saturday morning until the time of services at the funeral home.
