MELVIN I. "MAC" McDOWELL
Melvin I. "Mac" McDowell, 85, of Quincy, passed away at 2:49 am Tuesday (October 23, 2018) in the Illinois Veterans Home.
Born February 4, 1933 in Pike County, Illinois, Melvin was the son of Samuel and Elizabeth King McDowell. He married Patricia A. Young on July 11, 1964 in Hannibal, Missouri. She survives.
Mac was a member of the Quarter Century Club at Gardner-Denver. He enjoyed gardening, mushroom hunting, playing cards, especially Pitch and spending time with his faithful Poodle dog Andy. Mac proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Mr. McDowell was employed for 53 years as a machinist for Gardner-Denver Company before his retirement in 2006.
Survivors include his wife Pat; his son, Melvin R. McDowell (Barbara) of Quincy and his one and only granddaughter, Megan McDowell of Quincy
Mac was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Leona Robbins and Hazel Patterson.
Cremation arrangements are in the care of the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home. Graveside services with military honors by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Honors Detail will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 in Greenmount Cemetery with Monsignor Michael Kuse officiating.
Memorials may be made to his granddaughter's educational fund in care of Pat McDowell.
