MICHAEL BURT CREEKMORE
Michael B. Creekmore, 66, of the Illinois Veteran's Home in Quincy, died at 6:20 a.m. Thursday (March 16, 2017) in the Illinois Veteran's Home.
Born July 8, 1950, Michael was the son of George and Mary Jane Smith Creekmore, but was raised by his step father and mother, Ernie and Mary Jane Shearer.
Michael served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.
Michael was a 1968 graduate of Rock Island High School and received his Master of Forestry Degree from Western Illinois University. He was an outdoorsman at heart, often walking through the forest and watching the birds. Michael enjoyed reading in his spare time and was an advocate for animal rights, often donating his time and money to the cause.
Michael had been employed as a Janitor for Western Illinois University.
Survivors include three sisters, Cheryl Walter of Silvis, IL, Lori Calsyn of Tucson, AZ and Tovi Ballesteros (Cisco) of Tucson, AZ; a daughter, Meryl Stahlhut (Wade); three granddaughters; and several loving nieces and nephews.
Mr. Creekmore was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside services will be held Monday morning at 10:00 in Sunset Cemetery with Rev. Donald Blickhan officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail and the Quincy American Legion Post No. 37.
There is no visitation, but friends are invited to attend the graveside service.
Memorials may be made to the Illinois Veteran's Home Activity Fund.
