MICHAEL D. TOOMEY
Michael Dennis Toomey, 63, of Quincy, died at 8:19 a.m. Tuesday (November 10, 2015) in his home, after a long struggle with cancer.
Born August 29, 1952 in Quincy, Mike was the son of Terry A. and Dorothy V. Derhake Toomey. He married Karen Haley on December 31, 1981 in Quincy. She survives.
Mike was a member of Faith Christian Church, South Side Boat Club, North Side Boat Club, West Quincy Gun Club, Labor Local 919 and the Denver Meat Cutters. Mike was a fan of the Denver Broncos and Quincy High Blue Devil Basketball. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, fisherman and trapshooter. He loved camping and being at his rivercamp, where he built his home. Mike loved spending time with his many friends, and especially with his family.
Mike was a man of many talents. He was currently employed by Quincy Mack Inc.; and, was previously employed at Huck Fixtures and managed the meat departments of County Market and Sam's Club in Quincy and at Costco in Denver, Colorado. Mike also worked with his brother, Brian, in his concrete construction business.
Survivors include his wife, Karen; a daughter, Kendra Toomey of Chicago, IL; two step daughters, Lori Salisbury (Dan) of Paloma, IL and Lisa Gamble (Mark) of Quincy; three grandchildren, Austin Sparrow and Clayton Sparrow of Springfield, MO and Jacob Salisbury of Paloma, IL; a brother, Brian Toomey of Fowler, IL; a sister, Sandy Toomey of Quincy; a sister in law, Carol Toomey of Maywood, MO; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Terry T. Toomey; and a sister, Sonya Conover (Gerald).
Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Pastor Matt Worstell. Entombment will be in the Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum.
Visitation will be Friday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 at Faith Christian Church, 4115 North 12th Street, Quincy, and Saturday morning from 10:00 until the time of services at Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.
