Nancy Edith Meyer, 97, of Quincy, died at 9:00 a.m. Thursday (May 28, 2015) in Good Samaritan Home.
Born June 30, 1917 in Abingdon, Illinois, Edith was the daughter of Daniel Hurley and Jessie Kate Gerall Palmer. She married Russell V. Meyer on August 20, 1938 in Palmyra, Missouri. He preceded her in death on October 30, 1962.
Edie was an avid St. Louis Cardinal fan. She was devoted to her family and cherished the time she spent with them.
A graduate of Gem City Business College, Edith worked for many years with her husband in their business, Quincy Lumber Company. She later was the office manager for Shopper's Fair, owned and operated Wee Tiny Pre School, was employed at St. Mary Hospital, Honey Maid Donut Shop and then as a bookkeeper for Mids Lumber Company until her retirement.
Survivors include a son, John "Jay" Meyer (Barbara) of Quincy; four grandchildren, Russell Meyer II (Terri) of Taylorville, IL, Raymond J. Meyer (Tina) of Palmyra, MO, Dawn Meyer of Quincy and Nichole Meyer of Coatsburg, IL; eleven great grandchildren, Erin Meyer (Fiance Nathan Moore), Bryan Meyer (Heather), Kelli Meyer, Jessica Wardlow, Jorden Meyer, Brooke Meyer, Tyler Ochterbeck, Tanner Ochterbeck, William Ochterbeck, Sebastian Dyer and Talyn Dyer; and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Meyer was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Russell; five brothers, Henry Palmer, Ralph Palmer, Eugene Palmer, Earl Palmer and Cecil Palmer; and five sisters, Elsie McKinley, Nellie McKinley, Sibbel Hunnicutt, Mabel Rodgers and Ruth Palmer.
Funeral services will be held Monday morning at 10:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home by Chaplain James Riley. Burial will be in Quincy Memorial Park.
Visitation will be Monday morning from 9:30 until the time of services at the funeral home.
