NANCY A. PLATT
Nancy A. Platt, 74, of 5501 North 24th Street, Quincy died at 10:57 a.m. Monday (November 12, 2012) in her home.
Born February 27, 1938 in Streator, Illinois, Nancy was the daughter of Howard and Greta McMillin Burkett. She married Harry Michael Platt on April 22, 1961 in Liberty, Illinois. He preceded her in death on February 5, 1988.
Nancy was member of St. Francis Catholic Church and Ladies of St. Francis.
Mrs. Platt was a Registered Nurse certified in advanced cardiac life support and was also certified as a National Medical Surgical Nurse. She had worked at St. Mary Hospital for many years as a Nursing Supervisor, Assistant Director of Nursing Service, head nurse of the Emergency Room and the Intermediate Care Unit. Nancy later went to Blessing Hospital and worked in the Long Term Care Unit until retiring due to ill health. She was a member of the American Nurses Association and the Illinois Nurses Association. During her nursing career Nancy received many awards and a special Nurse of the Year Award.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane Platt of Quincy; three sons, David Platt (Sonya), Daniel Platt (Cathy) and Greg Smith all of Quincy; seven grandchildren, Nicole Platt-Gibson (Adam) of Payson, Jennifer Platt, Mercedes Platt, Michelle Platt, Danyelle Platt, Anna Moore and Lynette Moore all of Quincy; five great grandchildren, Braden Logsdon and Jocelyn Ruzicka, Ali Meyers, Skye Platt all of Quincy and Serenity Gibson of Payson; two brothers, David Burkett of Gonzales, LA and Charles Burkett of Quincy; a sister-in-law, Edith Burkett of Quincy; a brother-in-law, Timothy Mendenhall of Gonzales, LA; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Susan Mendenhall; and two brothers Bobby Burkett and Timothy Burkett.
Funeral services will be held Thursday morning at 9:30 in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home and a Funeral Mass at 10:00 in St. Francis Solanus Catholic Church by the Rev.Tom Shaughnessy. Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Wednesday evening from 4:00 to 7:00 and Thursday morning until the time of services at the funeral home. A Parish Prayer Service will be held Wednesday evening at 4:00 at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Quincy Animal Shelter or the Blessing Foundation for Hospice.
