NANCY A. WINKOWITSCH VAHLKAMP
Mrs. Nancy A. Winkowitsch Vahlkamp, 69, of Quincy, died at 3:00 a.m. Wednesday (January 29, 2014) in her home.
Born November 5, 1944 in Charles City, Iowa, Nancy was the youngest of twelve children born to John and Hulda Namman Adelmund. She married Duane Winkowitsch on April 26, 1964 and from that union came six children, Glenn, Kevin, Tony, Chet, Chad and Reta. Duane preceded her in death. She married Arthur M. "Marty" Vahlkamp on November 19, 1989 and from that union came three children, Tracy, Nicky and Katrina. Nancy said that Marty "Stole my heart forever".
Always active with something, Nancy loved listening to country music and enjoyed dancing, golfing, camping, sky diving and will be remembered for her cooking. She taught herself about computers and spent alot of time on her computer. Nancy devoted her life to raising her family and cherished the time she spent with them, and her beloved dog, Percy.
Nancy was known to have worked two and three jobs at a time. She worked for 21 years as a meat market manager and cutter as well as a cook in her business, Nancy's Kitchen in Palmyra, Missouri, Isa & Isabelle's, Rocky Point, and South Side Boat Club. She was also the deli manager for Niemann Foods and Wal-Mart. She retired after 9 years as manager of the IllinoisVeteran's Home Coffe Shop.
Survivors include her husband,friend, companion, lover and soul mate, Marty; eight children, Glenn Winowitsch of Wellsburg, IA, Tony Winkowitsch of New Hampton, IA, Chet Winkowitsch of Quincy, Chad Winkowitsch of Quincy, Tracy Williams of Quincy, Nicky Shipman of Moriarty, N.M., Reta Baker (Brad) of Quincy and Katrina Baker of Coatsburg, IL; Seventeen grandchildren; Four great grandchildren;and two sisters, Ella Vandeventor of Charles City, IA and Lena Nieman (Gary) of Waterloo, IA. Nancy also helped raise her namesake, godchild and niece, Nancy Dow Markel and two grandchildren, Angel and Dennis Smith. There are many loving nieces and nephews, many being more like her children.
Nancy wants her family to know how much they have helped her through this stage of her life with their love, thoughts and prayers. She loved all of you so very much!
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Duane; a son, Kevin Winkowitsch; two grandchildren, Dane Winkowitsch and an infant granddaughter, Paige Winkowitsch; three brothers, John Adelmund, Oboe Adelmund and Arnold Adelmund; and six sisters, Lillian Dingle, Pauline Adelmund, Harmmean Smith, Lena Adelmund, Mildred Adelmund and Frieda "Freddie" Dow.
Graveside services will be held Monday afternoon at 3:00 in Greenmount Cemetery by Pastor Nate Frazee.
Visitation will be Monday afternoon from 1:00 to 2:45 at the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the Blessing Foundation for Hospice or the Blessing Cancer Center.
