RICHARD L. BUTLER
Richard L. Butler, 71, of Quincy died at 7:10 am Tuesday (September 25, 2012) in Blessing Hospital.
Born November 15, 1940 in Quincy, Richard was the son of Albert and Opal Belle Stone Butler. He married Margaret E. Bennett on March 15, 1967 in Chippenham, Wiltshire, England. She survives.
Dick was a 22 year Army and Air Force Veteran serving his country in Vietnam and all over the globe. He retired at a Sergeant in 1978. His last duty station was by invitation to the Pentagon in the Defense Communications Agency. After retiring from the Air Force in 1978 Dick worked at Brower Manufacturing until it's closing. He then was employed in the Administrative offices of the Adams County Sheriff's Department until his retirement in 2006.
Dick enjoyed fishing. Dick had a great wit and loved spending time with his family and making people laugh.
Survivors include his wife Margaret; one daughter Brigitte Butler of Quincy; two sons Ian J. Butler (Kelley) of Litchfield, MN and Craig A.L. Butler (Susan) of Crystal Lake, IL; five grandchildren Reis Butler and Olivia Butler both of Litchfield, MN Bennett Butler, Edith "Edie" Butler, Richard "Early" Butler all of Crystal Lake, IL. Also surviving are five brothers, Albert Butler Jr. (Ginny), Michael Butler (Linda), John Butler (Diane) and David Butler all of Quincy and Ronald Butler (Martha) of Payson; two sisters Alice Russell (Bill) of Quincy and Marcia Gottman of Hannibal, MO.
Mr. Butler was preceded in death by his parents, and one sister Mary English.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with Pastor Wayne LaForce officiating. Inurnment will take place Monday morning at 11:00 in Sunset Cemetery at the Illinois Veteran's Home with military honors by Quincy American Legion Post No. 37 and the Illinois National Guard Funeral Detail.
Visitation will be held Friday evening from 5:00 until 7:00 and Saturday afternoon until the time of services.
