ROBERT E. KERN
Mr. Robert E. "Bob" Kern, 86, of Quincy, died at 11:10 p.m. Saturday (December 31, 2011) in Blessing Hospital.
Born August 20, 1925 in Barry, Illinois, Bob was the son of Wesley E. and Eleanor L. Anderson Kern. He married Billie Lou Byrd on March 11, 1950 in Pocahontas, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on February 24, 2005.
An avid sports enthusiast and Die Hard Cubs Fan, Bob also enjoyed playing golf, working in his yard and spending time with his friends.
Mr. Kern served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corps during WW II. He was a Life Member of the Elks Lodge No. 100, Quincy V.F.W. Post 5129 and the Disabled American Veterans.
Mr. Kern was employed as a Line Clearance Foreman for CIPS for 42 years, retiring in 1985.
Survivors include a son, Ted E. Kern (Karen) of Colchester, IL; two daughters, Bobbi Porter (Tom) of Quincy and Sandy Beckert (Ed) of Lee's Summit, MO; two grandchildren, Robbie Beckert of Lee's Summit, MO and T. J. Kern of Colchester, IL; a sister, Jeanne McKay of Alexandria, VA; and two nieces.
Mr. Kern was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Billie Lou; a brother in law, Lawrence "Kack" McKay; and a nephew.
A Celebration of Bob's life will be held Wednesday afternoon from 4:00 to 7:00 at the State Street Bar & Grill, 17th & State.
Private Inurnment will be in the Quincy Memorial Park Mausoleum. The Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home in Quincy is in charge of the arrangements.
